Stallone will return to star as Gabe Walker for this reboot, with the 1993 film seeing Stallone star as a mountain walker who becomes embroiled in a botched art heist by a group of international thieves, while on a rescue mission.
The 1993 also starred Michael Rooker, John Lithgow, and Janine Turner.
The reboot is to be directed by Roman Waugh, known for his work on films such as Angel Has Fallen, and Greenland. It will be also written by Mark Bianculi, with Neal H Moritz's Original Film to serve as executive producers, alongside Stallone's Balboa Productions.
It has also been reported that production is also casting for a lead to headline the ensemble's cast. This would appear to suggest that Sylvester Stallone will work alongside others for this rescue effort.
Speaking about this reboot, director Roman Waugh is thrilled to be working on what he called "one of my favoruite spectacles".
“Growing up with the biggest action films of the ‘80s and ‘90s, working on many of them myself, Cliffhanger was by far one of my favourite spectacles", Waugh stated. “To be at the helm of the next chapter, scaling the Italian Alps with the legend himself, Sylvester Stallone, is a dream come true".

Neal H Moritz also spoke of his excitement of working with an actor as the calibre of Sylvester Stallone.
“I’ll never forget the thrill I felt watching Sylvester Stallone in Cliffhanger. I am incredibly excited to be working with him and Ric Waugh to continue the story of Gabe Walker and introduce this iconic story to a new generation of filmgoers around the world", he said.
