The Script's Danny O'Donoghue Reveals Emotional Way The Band Will Honour Mark Sheehan

Danny O'Donoghue has revealed how The Script will honour their late bandmate Mark Sheehan on their new album.

The album which is called 'Satellites', will mark the band's first album since Sheehan's death in April last year. Sheehan, who was a founding member of the group, passed away following a "brief illness" aged 46.

Satellites will arrive next month, their seventh overall, and their first since Sunsets & Full Moons in 2019. In a recent interview, Danny O'Donnoghue spoke about how the band will honour Mark Sheehan on this album.

Referring to one song from the album, 'Gone', O'Donoghue said that the song deals with the death of his friend and bandmate Sheehan, with the lyrics referencing a "shooting star" that is in the sky.

"There's one song called Gone which is directly dealing with Mark's passing", O'Donoghue explained. "It's just basically saying 'like a shooting star across the sky, in a second you were gone. What if stars that light up twice as bright only burn for half as long?'. And it was ... I guess the first time I was able to articulate what my brother meant to me".

He continued: "In Ireland, we kind of ... we don't grieve loss - we celebrate life. And that's kind of what the album is as well".

"There's two or three songs on that that just celebrate while we're here and trying to live every moment like it's your last because you never know. It's brought it to such stark reality that it can go like that".

Support Received

Elsewhere, The Script's lead singer was also thankful for the support he and the band have received from fans in the past year. He added that they have been dealing with grief "very publicly".

"We're y'know I guess dealing with grief live. It's like we're experiencing this all in real time and very publicly as well. So just to have all the fans ... I never get the chance to actually thank them", O'Donoghue said.

Thanking the fans, the musician added: "But thank you all to the Script family for all their thoughts and prayers over the past year and a half. It's really gotten us through".

Satellites is due to arrive on August 16.
