Tyrone GAA Investigating Stabbing At Underage GAA Match

This incident took place on the grounds of Covent Road in Cookstown, co Tyrone, where Cookstown Fr Rocks' under 16 football team were playing Fintona Pearses in the championship semi final at Paddy Cullen Park.

An ambulence was called 9.03pm, while one man was later taken to Antrim Area Hospital, while a second man received treatment at the scene.

In their statement, Tyrone GAA said they are treating the matter "most seriously", adding that they would also conduct their own investigation. 

"We will be offering our support to those affected. We can make no further comment at this time", they added. 

This incident has led to national condemnation, with the GAA and Sinn Féin Stornmount Leader branding it as shocking. 

The GAA stated that it condemns "in the strongest terms possible terms the incident that marred an underage game in Tyrone last night leaving two people injured". 

"As an organisation we have a duty of care to protect our volunteer officials and the events that unfolded in Cookstown are totally unacceptable", the statement added. "We will work with the PSNI and our units, at both county and club level, to establish the facts around what occurred and, in the meantime, we extend our best wishes to those who were injured in the incident".

Cookstown's opponents Fitona Pearses also released a statement, saying that they are supporting anyone who witnessed this traumatic incident. 

Footage of the incident which was shared via social media, shows police officiers responding to this incident. The PSNI have also appealed for any witnesses or anyone with footage to come forward.
