Watch Elliot Page Play Trans-Man In New Trailer For 'Close To You'

Elliot Page stars in the new ‘Closer to You’ trailer.

Actor Elliot Page, is set to return to cinema in a new heart-wrenching drama , ‘Close to You’.

The film debuted at the Toronto International Film Festival last year and is finally set to see a release in cinemas next month.

The film follows Sam, a trans man, returning home to see his family in a small town in Canada. The IMDB description reads: “It's a trip he's been putting off for several years; his first time home since transitioning and finding the sort of inner peace he'd once thought impossible. An extra emotional burden comes when Sam meets an old school friend (actor Hillary Baack), forcing him to confront long-buried feelings.”

The film is written and directed by Dominic Savage , known for his work on ‘I Am’ and ‘Love + Hate’. Page not only stars in the leading role but is also credited as a writer and producer.

‘Close to You’ will be Page's first role in a movie since medical drama ‘Flatliners’ in 2017. It will also be his first film role as an openly trans man.

The 37-year-old opened up about his transition in 2020. Shortly after his long term role as Vanya on Netflix’s ‘Umbrella Academy’ was rewritten as Viktor.

"In many ways, there was some organic surge of words that did need to come out," Page says in his memoir ‘Pageboy’. "Also, in this specific time and climate just so rife with attacks against trans people, and having this strange life that's ended up with this platform I have, it sort of felt like these two things collided in many ways and in the time felt right."

At the premiere of Close To You last year Page described the film as “liberating” and the highlight of his career.

The film also stars Hillary Baack and is produced alongside Krishnendu Majumdar, Richard Yee, Daniel Bekerman, Chris Yurkovich.
