John Lewis has unveiled its new Christmas advert for 2024, called 'The Gifting Hour'.
The advert which you can check out below, sees Margaret Clunie star as Sally, who is in a race against time to find the perfect Christmas gift for her sister.
It takes on an emotionally charged narrative, mixing feelings of nostalgia, and family bonds with the search for that perfect present, reminding us all about the true meaning of Christmas.
In the ad, Sally arrives at the Oxford Street flagship store, which prepares to close. In a scene akin to The Lion The Witch and the Wardrobe, Sally finds a rack of dresses, as she encounters a world similar to that of the attic from her childhood home.
From here, Sally's magical adventure begins, with the magical realm revealing past memories of her and her sister, from an ice skating mishap, to a quarrel over a borrowed top, to the joy of imminent parenthood.
This adventure also shows Sally having an apparition of her late mother, which encapsulates the feeling of familial bonds.
This ad shows John Lewis taking centre stage, showing the the physical and emotional space of finding that perfect Christmas gift.
Not only does it highlight finding the perfect gift, but this ad also emphasises John Lewis' commitment to customer care. The soundtrack for this ad is Richard Ashcroft's track Sonnet, from his album Acoustic Hymns.
