Grammy award winning singer Carrie Underwood is to perform at the event as the musical guest, where she will sing 'America Is Beautiful'.

Confirming this news, Carrie Underwood released this statement.

“I love our country and am honored to have been asked to sing at the Inauguration and to be a small part of this historic event", she said. “I am humbled to answer the call at a time when we must all come together in the spirit of unity and looking to the future".

Whoopi Goldberg defends Carrie Underwood's choice

Speaking about Carrie Underwood on an episode of The View, Whoopi Goldberg defended the singer's choice to perform at Trump's inauguration.

Underwood has kept her political views quiet during her career, she did not endorse a candidate for the election in November.

However, Whoopi Goldberg who has criticised Donald Trump over his policies in the past, even refusing to say his name following his election win, has defended Underwood and her decision to perform at the inauguration.

“People do what they do for whatever reason,” she said. “I gotta stand behind that".

However, Goldberg did state that she would not be watching the inauguration.

The Sister Act star continued: “I stand behind her. If I believe I have the right to make up my mind to go perform some place, I believe they have the same right. I have to support. It doesn’t mean I’m particularly interested. I won’t be watching, but that’s just me".

Host of this show, Sunny Hostin also said that she would not be watching it, saying that she had booked "a spa day" instead.

Elsewhere, Alyssa Farrah Griffin expressed her hopes that society was moving past a point where we  “cancel people’s livelihood because we don’t like their politics".

“If you have a problem, you register your complaint by not downloading her songs and not going to her shows,” she said. “But, I also think from a business standpoint, it’s not a bad decision for Carrie Underwood".

Accepting that most celebrities tend to be "left leaning", Carrie Underwood “will overnight become an icon of MAGA and the American right".
