Efforts to form a new Government are underway as Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael begin coalition talks today.
Leaders Micheál Martin and Simon Harris will meet to discuss potential arrangements, with negotiating teams from both parties set to iron out the details of how they could work together once again.
The talks will also include meetings with the Social Democrats, Labour, and several independent TDs as part of efforts to secure wider support.
Meanwhile, Sinn Féin leader Mary Lou McDonald is holding discussions with other parties after her party’s strong showing in last week’s election.
She has renewed her call for a meeting with Micheál Martin, despite his insistence that their policy differences are too great.
It’s anticipated that a new coalition government may not take power until mid-January.
